Man, 41, Sentenced In Texting-Driving Death 5-18-2011

A 41-year-old man who police said was texting while driving was sentenced Wednesday on a charge of causing death.
Jerry Joseph, of Lapeer, was sentenced to 30 days in jail, 12 months probation and $5,925 in fines.
The charges stemmed from a crash on Lake Pleasant Road that killed 78-year-old Irene Paquin of Attica Township on Nov. 30.
Last month, Joseph pleaded guilty to charges of committing a moving violation causing death and driving without insurance.
Police later determined Joseph was texting on his phone at the time of the crash.
Lapeer County prosecutor's office believes it is the first case of its kind in Michigan.
The victim’s husband was also seriously injured in the crash.
