KKK Member Files Paperwork For Possible Rally 5-19-2011

A member of the Ku Klux Klan is planning to hold a rally in Mid-Michigan. He told TV5 his message won't be about the group, but police are still worried.
TV5 has confirmed that a rally-permit application was submitted by Randy Gray, a longstanding active organizer of the KKK who describes himself as a proud member of the Klan.
“The main purpose of the rally is, it's the Fourth of July, the Declaration of Independence,” said Gray. “It's to remind the people that we don't just have to sit back and watch our government.”
Midland County Sheriff Jerry Nielsen said the paperwork that was filed did not directly indicate the rally would be KKK-related.
Word of the rally is already spreading around Midland.
Nielsen admits he might have to have extra people in place at the Midland County courthouse when the two-hour rally happens. With it being scheduled for July 2, the sheriff will also have a lot of other events to take care of, and that could stretch manpower.
Anyone who wants to hold a rally has to get approval from the county. Nielsen said they contact everyone to follow up on all plans and allow for extra protection if needed.
In 1996, violence erupted at a rally in Saginaw. No one was arrested.
