HSC Ponders Further $3 Billion Expansion 5-19-2011

Hemlock semiconductor looking into a $3 billion expansion at its still-to-be completed plant in Clarksville, Tennessee. The move could help Mid-Michigan. Experts say the expansion means the solar industry is still growing. It could lead to more work for the plant here in Saginaw County. The Clarksville plant is expected to be built late next year. In 2009, production began at HSC’s expanded facility near Saginaw. The Thomas Township plant aimed to raise output of polycrystalline silicon by 8,600 metric tons per year. The expansion’s goal was to bring the site's total annual polycrystalline silicon production to 36,000 tons.
