Flint Woman Pleads Guilty In Carjacking Incident 5-20-2011

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said that a Flint woman pleded guilty Wednesday to carjacking related to a January incident involving a Mundy Township man.
Leyton said Renee Garcia, 41, and the victim, who had met earlier in the evening at a local bar, purchased a case of beer and went back to the victim’s residence in Mundy Township.
According to Leyton, around 5 a.m. the victim woke up in his bed and discovered that he was bleeding from the head and had been tied to his headboard with the tubes from his breathing machine along with the cord from his alarm clock.
Garcia then allegedly hit the victim in the head with a hammer, took money from his wallet and stole his car keys and fled in the victim’s car.
The victim managed to free himself and went to a neighbor’s house for help, authorities said.
Police were called and the victim’s car was found later that morning about a quarter of a mile from Garcia’s residence, Leyton said.
Leyton said Garcia’s phone was found in the victim’s car with blood on it. Garcia was arrested about a week later.
She is expected to be sentenced to 11 years in prison under sentencing guidelines, Leyton said.
