State OKs $3M Film Incentive For 'Freaky Deaky' 5-20-2011

The Michigan Film Office has approved a nearly $3 million incentive for a film based on a novel by acclaimed author and state resident Elmore Leonard.
The tax credit announced Friday is for "Freaky Deaky," a story set in Detroit. The film office said it's the first adaptation of a Leonard novel to be filmed entirely in Michigan.
Filmmakers project spending $6.9 million in Michigan, and it's the eighth project approved under new guidelines issued by the state's film office.
A budget deal announced Thursday by Republican Gov. Rick Snyder would limit the state's film credit program to $25 million. The program had not previously been capped.
The film office said the project is expected to hire 235 Michigan workers with a full-time equivalent of 59 jobs.
