Â?Click It Or TicketÂ? Campaign Begins Statewide 5-23-2011

Officers, sheriff's deputies and state police across Michigan are taking part in the state’s Click It or Ticket campaign that runs until June 5.
In all, 203 local police departments, sheriff's offices and Michigan State Police posts in 35 counties are taking part in the campaign.
More than 500 daytime seat belt enforcement zones and nighttime patrols are planned to reinforce the importance of buckling up, day and night, police said.
Those caught could face a fine, but police say the goal of the effort is getting people to buckle up. Enforcement zones are listed online.
Tuscola County Sheriff Lee Teschendorf said that during 2010 more than half of the people who died in traffic crashes in Michigan were not wearing seat belts -- 321 people. Teschendorf also noted that all drivers and front seat passengers as well as passengers age 15 and younger in any position in the vehicle are required to buckle up.
Children must be in a booster seat until they are 8 years old or 4 feet 9 inches tall, whichever comes first.
Although Michigan is among the top-rated states in the country in seat belt usage, its use rate decreased to 95.2 percent in 2010 compared to an all-time-high rate of 97.9 percent.
