Saginaw City Council Approves $136M Budget 5-24-2011

Saginaw City Council members overwhelmingly approved a new 2011-2012 budget on Monday.
The council voted unanimously to pass the 287-page, $136 million plan.
City Manager Darnell Earley said $2.5 million of the budget came from the reserve and likely won’t be available next year.
Earley said more than $600,000 will be cut form the public safety under a reorganization plan. but also stressed that improvements to the 75-year-old building that houses City Hall can no longer be delayed.
The council will get Earley's report on the city's facilities later this summer.
The council also OK'd a 50-year tax incentive for the General Motors plant on North Washington. Leaders hope to have the same outcome as Bay City did back in 2007 when a similar deal was struck.
Council then approved a settlement in a three-year-old wrongful termination lawsuit filed by a former police officer.
Patrick C. Shaltry, 42, claims he was sexually harassed by his female supervisor before he was fired in 2008.
The woman has denied the claims.
