Man Gets 25 Year Sentence In Child Sex Case 5-24-2011

A 23-year-old Bay City man will serve 25-41 years in prison after he was convicted of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old family member last month.
On April 5, a jury found David B. Burns guilty on one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. It took the jury about an hour-and-a-half to come in with the guilty verdict.
On Monday, Bay County Circuit Court Judge Kenneth W. Schmidt handed down the sentence.
"There is nothing worse than children being assaulted and abused in their own home,” Bay County prosecutor Kurt C. Ashbury said. “We have to provide the greatest protection to the most vulnerable members of our community.”
The girl's mother testified in court that she found out about the sexual allegations through Child Protective Services, but that her daughter had mentioned being sexually abused even before she was notified.
An associate minster and a sexual assault nurse examiner also testified in court -- the child did not, according to Ashbury.
