Authorities say a 10-year-old girl was struck and killed by a car while crossing a road as she talked on a cellphone.

The Times Herald of Port Huron reported Korylette Kucken of Croswell was struck about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Sanilac County's Lexington Township, about 65 miles northeast of Detroit.

State Police said the girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Korylette attended Croswell-Lexington Middle School, where classes had been dismissed early at noon because of a water main break at another school.

Croswell-Lexington School District Superintendent Kevin Miller says a crisis intervention team was to be on hand Thursday at the middle school.
