Motorcyclist killed in construction zone

Alcohol may have been a factor in a fatal motorcycle crash in a Bay County construction zone early Monday morning, authorities said.

The crash happened on Hotchkiss Road and M-84 in Frankenlust Township just before 12:30 a.m.

The driver was identified as Kyle Allen Balzer of Richville.

Michigan State police said Balzar was west on Hotchkiss Road when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway.

His motorcycle left the road and flipped several times. Police said Balzar was thrown from his bike and died at the scene.

A passing motorist noticed the motorcycle upside down and called 911 to report the crash.

Police said Balzar was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, but believe that alcohol likely played a factor in the crash.
