Loons lose nail biter in Cedar Rapids 5-4

The Great Lakes Loons have fallen in Cedar Rapids 5-4 after the Kernels scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

After the Loons tied it at four heading into the bottom of the eighth, Travis Witherspoon quickly put the Kernels back in front with a long home run to lead off the inning.

Great Lakes then put the first two men on in the top of the ninth inning.

Joc Pederson then hit into a double play and Michael Pericht struck out swinging to end the game.

The Loons missed out on an opportunity to tie Lansing for first place in the Eastern Division because the Lugnuts fell to Quad Cities 4-3.
