DETROIT (AP) - Kyrie Irving scored 18 points and rookie Daniel Theis added a career-high 19 to lift the Boston Celtics to a 110-98 victory over the Detroit Pistons. Jayson Tatum scored 11 of his 15 points in the first half for the Celtics, who went into the All-Star break on a three-game losing streak but returned with a solid win on the road.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Detroit agreed to a $4 million, one-year contract with left-hander Francisco Liriano, giving the Tigers added pitching depth. The 34-year-old was 6-7 with a 4.62 ERA in 18 starts last season with Toronto and 20 relief appearances with World Series champion Houston, which acquired him at the July 31 trade deadline. The 34-year old is 102-99 in a 12-year big league career. Tigers general manager Al Avila said it has not been decided whether Liriano starts or pitches in relief.
(AP) - Former New York Jets linebacker David Harris has retired after 11 NFL seasons. Harris made the announcement in a statement released on Twitter by his agents. He ranks second on the Jets' career tackles list. He was cut by New York last June and played for New England this past season. He was a role player for the Patriots and appeared in just 10 regular-season games while also not playing in the Super Bowl against Philadelphia.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Aaron Boone got a new view and a win in his first game as a baseball manager at any level. Hired to replace Joe Girardi in the New York dugout, Boone managed the Yankees to a 3-1 win over the Detroit Tigers in their spring training opener. Giancarlo Stanton played in the Yankees' pinstripes for the first time since he was acquired from Miami in December. The major league home run champion and NL MVP walked and grounded into a double play.
GANGNEUNG, South Korea (AP) - Former U.S. women's hockey player AJ Mleczko is getting the chance to do color analysis for a nationally televised NHL game. The 42-year-old earned the opportunity for the March 6 Red Wings- Bruins game with her strong broadcasting of the women's tournament at the Olympics. Mleczko follows the footsteps of Cammi Granato and Cassie Campbell-Pascall in hockey, which has been slower than some other sports to integrate women into the broadcast booth.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - Jessica Lindstrom posted her 15th double-double this season with 16 points and 13 rebounds and No. 22 Green Bay defeated Oakland 78-48 to win the outright Horizon League regular-season crown. Allie LeClaire scored 13 points to move into the program's top 10 all-time scoring leaders and Karly Murphy and Mackenzie Wolf added 10 points each for the Phoenix, who have won 20 consecutive conference titles.
