Deputies investigate drowning in Gladwin County

The Gladwin County sheriff's office says deputies were dispatched Tuesday morning to the Secord Eagles Lodge for a call about a drowning victim.

When emergency crews arrived they pulled a 61-year-old man from Secord Lake. It happened just before 2 a.m. A sheriff's department news release said the victim has been identified as William Joseph Mitoraj, a Gladwin County resident.

Mitoraj was transported to the Gladwin Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:45 a.m.

The sheriff's office said the incident remains under investigation.

An official with the sheriff's department said Mitoraj left the Lodge and walked out back to the dock where his boat was parked. Investigators said friends found his boat floating in the water about 30 minutes later. When they couldn't find Mitoraj they called 911.

An autopsy is scheduled to be performed.
