Dog quarantined after attack on boy

Posted: Updated:

A young boy is recovering after a dog attack Monday afternoon in Huron County's Meade Township.

The Huron County sheriff's office told TV5 the 12-year-old Filion boy was riding his bike south on M-53 when a male pit bull mix broke free from its dog chain and attacked the child.

Sheriff Kelly J. Hanson said the dog bite the boy several more times on various parts of body.

While attempted to escape the attack, the boy ran eastbound in front of a passing truck. Hanson said the truck made major breaking actions and was able to avoid hitting the child.

The attack ended when the dog's 34-year-old female owner ran from her house and grabbed the severed chain, according to Hanson.

The boy was taken to Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe for treatment.

Hanson said the dog's owner cooperated with deputies and placed the animal in quarantine for at least 10 days.

Deputies are expected to meet with the dog's owner to discuss possible charges.
