Governor orders free-market website link removed

Posted: Updated:

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has ordered a link on a state government website to a free-market think tank removed.

The Republican governor pointed out Tuesday that the link has been there since 2004, when Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm was in office.

Democratic state Reps. Jon Switalski of Warren and Vicki Barnett of Farmington Hills called Tuesday for the state website to link to the official, nonpartisan page of the Michigan Legislature and not to the Mackinac Center's Michigan Votes page for information on how lawmakers voted.

The Mackinac Center in Midland generally advocates free-market and conservative principles.

Snyder communications director Geralyn Lasher says state officials removed the Mackinac Center link late Tuesday afternoon from www.michigan.gov. It now has a link instead to the Michigan Legislature website.
