Disaster drill set for Thursday in Freeland

Posted: Updated:

Area physicians who are training to become emergency physicians at the Synergy Medical Education Alliance will be participating in a mock disaster training session.

The Emergency Medicine Residents will be using their skills to manage multiple critically-injured patients in a simulated multi-vehicle crash. They will have a lecture on how to triage injured patients followed by practice with immobilizing the patients who are at risk for a spinal cord injury.

Then, they will be called into action where local MMR EMT and paramedic students will be acting as patients. They will have a simulated hospital setting where they will need to act quickly to stabilize the victims brought from the scene of the crash in order to "save their lives."

Afterward, the Tittabawassee Township Fire Department will have a hands-on training session on the use of the Jaws of Life and the doctors-in-training will practice cutting victims out of cars.

The event takes place from 9am to Noon at the Tittabawassee Township Fire Department, 355 Church Street, Freeland.
