Michigan DEQ chief headed to Midland

Posted: Updated:

As the Midland Area Chamber of Commerce continues to focus efforts on bringing a bigger legislative voice to this area, they will be hosting Dan Wyant, Director of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), at an upcoming Issues and Answers program on Friday.

Dan Wyant was named Director of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality in January, 2011, by Governor Rick Snyder.

The appointment marked a return to public service for Wyant, who was director of the Michigan Department of Agriculture (MDA) for nine years before he departed in 2005 to be President and Chief Operating Officer of the Edward Lowe Foundation.

Part of Wyant's appointment as DEQ Director includes chairing the Quality of Life group for the Snyder Administration – a trio of state agencies that includes the DEQ, the Department of Natural Resources, and the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The group works to find ways to make three agencies with similar missions and constituents run more efficiently and effectively through coordination at the headquarters, administrative, and field levels.

Issues and Answers is an informal session that is meant to bring Chamber Members up-to-date on current, governmental issues that affect our community. This is an opportunity to sit down in a relaxed lunch setting and hear directly from the Director of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).

This Issues and Answers session will take place on June 24, 2011 from 11:30-1 p.m. at the Northwood- NADA Hotel and Conference Center.
