Midland Area Farmers Market Kids Day Saturday

Posted: Updated:

The Farmers Market season is in full swing with this year's crop of fruits and vegetables starting to roll in. Eating healthy and buying local has always been a key component of the Midland Farmers Market. On Saturday, July 9, 2011, we invite the children of the area to come down to the market for a special day to learn about healthy eating as well as have a little fun at the market.

While the Midland Area Farmers Market is always open from 7 a.m. until Noon, the children's activities will begin at 10 a.m. Children can pick up their Farmers Market scavenger hunt directions at the main table at the market. From there, they can begin their hunt through the market to find all sorts of interesting fruits, herbs, plants, vegetables and even take in the smells and tastes of fresh-popped kettle corn. The scavenger hunt is designed to help children gain awareness for healthy items that they may not have even heard of before.

Many other activities will be taking place while the scavenger hunt runs from 10 a.m.-Noon. Join the authors of Gisselle's Adventures in Color for story time, and meet Gisselle! Jewls the Clown will be there as well as a special appearance of Lou E. Loon from 11 a.m.-Noon. The Northwood University Greek community will be hosting free mini golf, cotton candy and snow cones for kids. Bring the family out for your morning shopping at the market and help your kids learn about the market in a fun way.

The Midland Area Farmers Market is located in downtown Midland, at the end of Ashman Street, next to the Tridge. With easy access to the Rail Trail and downtown shops and restaurants, visitors to the Market can stop in for a quick shopping trip, or stay longer and enjoy the many places to stroll, shop and dine. The Market is open every Wednesday and Saturday from 7 a.m. until Noon.

The Midland Area Chamber of Commerce coordinates the Midland Farmers Market. Visit the website at www.macc.org/farmersmarket for more information or contact the Chamber at 989/839-9901.
