Roads reopened after vapor release at Dow Corning

Posted: Updated:

Dow Corning says several roads around its 502 Building are back open after a small amount of hydrogen chloride vapor was released Wednesday morning.

Midland County central dispatch says Saginaw Road between Bay City and Gordonville roads has reopened, as has Salzburg Road between Saginaw Waldo roads.

Dow Corning spokesperson Jarrod Erpelding confirms that there was some type of incident at the 502 Building. Officials have labeled the release as "minor."

Dow Corning released this statement following the containment of the release:

At approximately 10:40 a.m. this morning, Dow Corning's Midland Site experienced a small vapor release of hydrogen chloride.  The site's emergency response team identified and contained the source of the vapor release within a few minutes.

As a precaution, portions of Saginaw and Salzburg roads near the site were briefly closed.  The roads have since reopened.  No hydrogen chloride has been detected off site.

An investigation has already begun into the cause of the incident.
