FRANKENLUST TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - One county's disposal facility is another county's preservation project. Or sometimes the same county.
The Saginaw News reports Thursday that Saginaw County officials have renamed the Dredged Material Disposal Facility as the Saginaw River Preservation Project.
The 220-acre site is where crews have dumped material from the river since federally funded dredging began in recent years.
County officials say the project preserves more than 300 jobs, 14 businesses and improves water quality and flow.
Lone Tree Environmental Council spokesman Michelle Hurd Riddick says the project merely relocates contamination. She says the new name changes nothing.
