MIDLAND, Mich. (AP) - The Pentagon has released details on the death of a 20-year-old U.S. Navy hospital corpsman from Midland who was killed in action in Afghanistan.

The Defense Department said Thursday that Seaman Aaron D. Ullom was on foot patrol in Helmand Province when he was killed Tuesday.

Ullom was part of a Marine unit out of Camp Lejeune, N.C. His remains were being flown Thursday to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.

Ullom was a 2009 graduate of Midland High School and was on his first deployment to Afghanistan, where he arrived in February.
