GRATIOT COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

The 36-year-old woman who confessed to leaving the scene after fatally striking a 14-year-old boy has been identified and has several prior convictions including failing to report another accident.

According to the Mt. Pleasant Morning Sun, Brandie L. Malek was fined $900 for failing to report an accident and $400 for writing a bad check in 2009.

She was then known as Brandie L. Edmister.

The Ithaca Police Department said the Pompeii woman turned herself in to the Gratiot County Sheriff Office Sunday night, saying she had been driving the vehicle in the fatal crash.

She was taken to MidMichigan Medical Center-Gratiot in Alma after turning herself in.

Authorities are not disclosing her illness.

Malek is expected to be arrested and arraigned after her release.

Authorities say Brandon Rummor was riding his bike near Ithaca on July 21, when he was killed.
