A new restaurant opening soon in Grand Blanc Township using a 21st century way of getting employees.
Crazy Crab Shack is a new restaurant set to open any day now. But even before the doors open, they were getting the name out via Facebook and that's when the flood gates were opened.
"[I thought], ‘I'm going to put on Facebook,' and at that time, my intentions weren't even to draw in employees," said Emily O'Boyle, manager of the Crazy Crab Shack. "Within weeks of having that open, that's when everybody started flooding in, asking about positions and applications."
And even now the site is still receiving inquires about employment.
"More recently I've seen a lot of different companies advertising on there," said O'Boyle. "It's a free advertising site with millions of people, so I thought, 'why not?'"
How many prospective employees found it on Facebook?
"A lot of the people that I've had apply for jobs have come from Facebook. Tons of applications have been turned in. We've went through tons of interviews. Most of the time, I've seen you on Facebook. "
But even if you aren't looking for a job, you're going to want to stop by, and try the food.
"We have seafood lasagna which has the shrimp, crab meat, scallops, lobster meat," continued O'Boyle. "We have an apple salmon steak that is delicious. We've got perch, walleye, we've got swordfish [and] we've got your tuna steaks got a little bit of everything. "
And what does a new business do for the community?
"Having a business here is always a positive thing. And a new restaurant with new venues and new menus is always positive," said Grand Blanc Chamber of Commerce member Jet Kilmer.
A sign outside the business says it will open next week, but the owners told me they're just waiting for the few permits to clear. When the restaurant opens, their hours will be 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day of the week.
