BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) - It'll soon be time to pig out in Bay City.
The Labadie Pig Gig charity event gets under way Thursday at Veterans Memorial Park.
Organizers say 1 of the highlights of this year's event comes on Aug. 7 when little plastic piggies will be dropped from a helicopter and fly over the festival grounds as part of a fundraiser called "When Pigs Fly."
Event official Wendy Dore tells The Bay City Times she'd heard of an event doing the same thing with golf balls in Florida, "so we put our own different spin on it."
Each pig is numbered with a corresponding raffle ticket that local charities are selling for $10 each.
The person holding the number of the piggy that lands closest to its "pig pen" wins $1,500.
