FLINT, Mich. (AP) - Flint plans to hold six free training sessions for residents interested in becoming volunteers to assist police.
Members of the Blue Badge Volunteer Corps help Flint police with crowd and traffic control for major events, administrative duties, dignitary details and community relations functions.
The Flint Journal reports residents must attend all training sessions and successfully pass a background check before becoming an official Blue Badge volunteer.
The training will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the roll call room of the Flint Police Department on Aug. 8, Aug. 9, Sept. 12, Sept. 13, Sept. 19 and Sept. 20.
Participants must reserve a spot by 4 p.m. on Aug. 8.
