BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -
A federal judge in Bay City has approved a $1 million settlement in the wrongful death suit filed by the family of a Bay City teen.
The Bay City Times reported the suit was filed in December 2009, nine months after 15-year-old Brett Elder died after Bay City police used a Taser to subdue him.
The lawsuit was filed by the teen's father.
An autopsy showed the teen died of "alcohol-induced excited delirium" together with "application of an electromuscular disruption device."
Police say Elder was intoxicated and took an aggressive stance toward officers responding to a report of a fight.
A prosecutor declined to bring charges against officers.
The settlement will be partially distributed to four of Brett Elder's family members.
