Lawmakers announce funds for Detroit, MBS airports

DETROIT (AP) - Lawmakers from Michigan say projects at Detroit Metropolitan Airport and MBS International Airport will be getting millions of dollars in federal funding.

Democratic Sen. Carl Levin announced Tuesday that Detroit Metropolitan Airport in Romulus is getting more than $15 million in federal transportation grants. Most of the money will rehabilitate a runway and the rest will help boost emission-reducing infrastructure.

Levin and fellow Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow also announced that MBS International Airport will get nearly $7 million for ramps and access roads. The airport in Saginaw County's Tittabawassee Township serves the Midland, Bay City and Saginaw areas.

MBS International Airport is building a $48 million passenger terminal that's scheduled to open in 2013.
