BLANCHARD, Mich. (AP) - Months after fire destroyed a small-town bar near the Isabella-Mecosta county line, the doors are open again at the popular gathering spot.
The Blanchard Bar isn't just any bar. It's where folks show up to watch sports on TV and share some local chatter in Blanchard, 20 miles southwest of Mount Pleasant.
Fire destroyed the bar last December while the owners were in Florida. Irma Heese tells the Morning Sun that it was important to the community that the Blanchard Bar rise again. The tables were made from a local maple tree that was cut down last spring.
There was so much interest from people dropping by that the doors had to be locked during construction. Heese says, "Oh, yeah, the community is ready."
