ID released of trucker who died on Mackinac Bridge

ST. IGNACE, Mich. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a tractor-trailer driver who died last week after suffering an apparent medical emergency, crossing four lanes of the Mackinac Bridge and striking a car heading in the opposite direction.

WWTV/WWUP reports that the truck driver was identified as Randolph Smith of West Branch.

Officials have said the driver was heading south near mid-span of the 5-mile-long bridge connecting Michigan's upper and lower peninsulas on Friday when he apparently had a heart attack. The truck missed one car but hit another that was going in the opposite direction.

No other serious injuries were reported. The crash, which shut down the bridge for part of Friday, was under investigation.
