Embattled representative wants recall rescheduled

LANSING, MI (WNEM) -

The on-again, off-again saga involving Republican state Representative Paul Scott has taken another turn.

The embattled congressman is now asking that the recall attempt be moved to the February election.

Voters will get the opportunity to vote on Scott's future after the Michigan Supreme Court last week reversed an Oct. 13 ruling by an Ingham County judge to cancel the recall election.

The high court ruled that the recall issue be on the ballot this coming Nov. 8.

In explaining his request for a delay, Scott says there is confusion among voters and election officials due to multiple changes in the recall election's status.

"We're not trying to avoid the recall at all...The process is now tainted," Scott told the Saginaw News.

"There's clear confusion."

The Michigan Education Association has been leading the campaign to remove Paul Scott from office since back in July.

The MEA is unhappy with Scott because he voted for a state budget that contained cuts in public school funding.
