GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - A pickup truck driver struck and killed a black bear roaming along a West Michigan freeway.
Craig Feenstra tells WZZM-TV for a story Sunday that "something black ran from" his left and was hit by his truck about 8 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 96 in Grand Rapids.
The bear ran south after being hit, but later died.
WOOD-TV reports that a bear was spotted earlier in the day eating from a trash can. Police issued an alert and a local high school soccer game was delayed as officers looked for the bear.
WZZM reports that the Michigan Department of Natural Resources estimates the bear was two years old and weighed about 150 pounds.
No one was injured by the bear.
