Kid Rock
SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -
A Midland resident will be in an upcoming Kid Rock and Martina McBride music video after winning a local radio station contest.
Shannon Luft, 27, was at the video shoot Thursday for the music video titled "Care."
The contest was open to those who volunteer for area nonprofit organizations in the Saginaw Bay Region. It was sponsored by New Mix 106.3.
Luft is an American Cancer Society volunteer. Kid Rock's new song, "Care," shares a message that even though you might not be able to change the world and make things fair, the least that you can do is care.
Luft shared her story about why she "cares" for the American Cancer Society during the contest.
In 2003, Luft's father was diagnosed with melanoma. She first participated in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Sterling Heights that same year in honor of her father. After moving to Midland in 2006, she joined the Relay For Life of Midland County committee and participated as a team captain.
"Relay For Life makes my life whole," Luft said. "At Relay we are able to share each other's joys and sorrows. I'm most excited to get the Relay brand out there and share a message that caring volunteers are the heart and soul of these organizations. Volunteering is beyond worthwhile."
The video is set to be released next month in conjunction with a fall theater tour. His foundation plans to make donations to local charities in each city he visits.
Rock is scheduled to perform Saturday at the Cattle Baron's Ball, an American Cancer Society fundraiser at Joe Louis Arena.
