GENESEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

WNEM TV5 has learned a 10th grade student at Swartz Creek High School collapsed during an open gym session and his heart stopped.

This happened Wednesday after school.

An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) was successfully used by district coaches to restore his heartbeat.

The student was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he is stable and undergoing further tests and observation.

Lauren Hunter, assistant superintendent with Swartz Creek Community Schools, says the "quick actions and combined efforts of our district coaches saved the student's life. For that, we are grateful for their heroism and the emergency training they received through the district."
