The repercussions of the apparent recall of Republican Rep. Paul Scott of Grand Blanc are taking hold at the Michigan Capitol.

The House Education Committee which Scott chairs canceled its scheduled Wednesday meeting, the morning after Scott said results showed that he had narrowly lost a recall election in Genesee County.

There was no immediate word on who House Republicans might appoint to take over the committee. Republicans continue to hold a decisive edge over Democrats in the House.

Scott technically remains in office until election results are certified, which could happen within a week.

Scott said early Wednesday he accepted results showing that he was recalled by voters in his district.

He was targeted by the Michigan Education Association for policies that weakened teacher tenure and cut education funding.
