ARGENTINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities are releasing new details as they try to solve the murder of a Genesee County woman 18 years ago.
The Flint Journal reports that 1 of the stolen rifles was an old Winchester with the name "Jep" on the stock of the gun. Jep is short for the first name of Delores Smothers' father.
The 40-year-old Smothers was fatally shot in 1993 when she went home for lunch in Argentine Township and walked in on a burglar, southwest of Flint.
1 of the other stolen guns was a muzzleloader with the serial number 33355. Smothers' husband, Larry, says it's a tough time of the year for his family. Friday is the 18th anniversary of his wife's death.
