HINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a deer hunter was fatally shot in Michigan by his brother, who was hunting nearby.

The Mecosta County sheriff's department said in a statement that the 26-year-old man from Hinton Township, where the shooting took place, was pronounced dead at the scene Wednesday night. Investigators say he was killed by a gunshot from his 23-year-old brother.

The department said the older brother was found shot in a deer blind. The shooting happened on the second day of Michigan's 16-day firearm deer hunting season.

Hinton Township is about 50 miles northeast of Grand Rapids. The death was under investigation. Names weren't immediately released.
