LAPEER COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A man has been sentenced to life in prison for murder in the 2011 death of his former girlfriend.

Andrea Eilber, 19. of Otisville was killed on Nov. 14, 2011 while she was house sitting for her aunt in Lapeer County's Mayfield Township.

Eilber's family notified police of her disappearance after they did not hear from her. Her car was found early the next morning in a parking lot at the Lapeer State Game Area on Five Lakes Road.

Kenneth Grondin, 23, of Lapeer was arrested shortly after and charged with Eilber's murder.

Grondin was convicted of first degree felony murder on Oct. 26, 2015.

Authorities said the two were dating and worked at a Kroger together.

"I am pleased to see justice served for Andrea and her family," Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette said. "Four years may go by fast for some of us, but for her family I can only imagine how hard it has been."

Grondin was the last person to see Eilber alive and he did not participate in any searches to find her whereabouts, officials said.

At the time of Eilber's disappearance Grondin made incriminating statements that placed him at the crime scene, but denied he killed her, officials said.

Grondin was sentenced on Feb. 5, 2016.
