Saginaw Nouvel RB Lewis named Division 7-8 Player of the Year

SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) - Saginaw Nouvel Catholic running back Bennett Lewis is the Associated Press Division 7-8 Player of the Year.

The 5-foot-9, 182-pound senior has led the Panthers to the Division 7 state final, thanks to a 14-3 win over Traverse City St. Francis this past weekend.

Heading into that game, Lewis had run for 1,641 yards and 30 touchdowns on 147 carries. He also had nearly 500 yards receiving.

Lewis is 1 of 2-dozen players to earn a spot on the AP Division 7-8 All-State first team.

Coach of the Year honors go to Union City's Eric Tundevold, who led his team to its first unbeaten regular season since 2001. During Tundevold's 34-year tenure, the Chargers have won more than 230 games.
