Saginaw Nouvel tops Pewamo-Westphalia

DETROIT (AP) - Bennett Lewis rushed for 200 yards and tied a state record with five touchdowns as Saginaw Nouvel overwhelmed Pewamo-Westphalia 56-26 Saturday in the Division 7 title game at Ford Field.

Lewis only played in the first half as the Panthers (13-0) scored 56 points in the opening two quarters, breaking the title-game scoring mark before the intermission.

Lewis scored on runs of 16, 12 and 1 yards and Nouvel added a safety to lead 23-0 after the first quarter.

The Pirates (13-1) tried to get back into the game in the second quarter with Justin Thelen throwing a pair of touchdown passes, but Lewis scored twice more. Joe Buchalski added three touchdown passes to put the Panthers up 56-12 at the half.
