BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) - A large brass bell that once tolled at a Bay City restaurant in honor of 5 brothers fighting in World War II has been found.
The Bay City Times says the bell that hung at Revette's bar was last rung by Wilbur "Papa" Revette on Dec. 31, 1944, when it chimed only four times. The family later learned one son had died in battle.
The bell was found during a 2010 building renovation. And on Thanksgiving, 67 years after it last chimed, Ron Revette rang it again four times - one each for his fellow military brothers.
Revette keeps the bell at home. But he plans to move it to 1 of the bars and restaurants still owned by family members and bring back the New Year's Eve tradition.
