GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - A Grand Rapids-area man has been charged with failing to inform a sex partner that he has the AIDS virus.
Grand Rapids police say David Smith was charged last week, three days after he voluntarily told detectives that he had been having unprotected sex. He said there were many partners, but he only knew a few names.
The 51-year-old Smith is in the Kent County jail. The name of his attorney was not known.
The Kent County Health Department is urging people who had sex with Smith to contact the agency for an HIV test. The department says Smith suggested he was intentionally trying to spread the virus.
