Retailer Meijer Inc. and Michigan State University are teaming up to promote products from Michigan businesses.
The Grand Rapids-based company and the Michigan State University Product Center for Agriculture and Natural Resources on Monday announced the Made in Michigan initiative that's launching this month.
They'll be selling 49 new products made from small Michigan businesses, and some are right here in Mid-Michigan.
The effort will begin when the new grocery items will fill designated areas in 33 Meijer stores statewide. The products include marinara sauce, blueberry butter, gluten free baking mixes and gourmet seasoning. Local Meijer locations will feature oils, salad dressings and grains from a Lapeer company, and pickles from Mandingo Pickles in Owosso.
The new items are in addition other Michigan products currently available at Meijer stores. Meijer worked with the MSU Product Center and others for about a year on the project, which starts with 22 vendors.
The initiative starts next week.
