Detroit courthouse brawl caught on camera

DETROIT, MI (WNEM) -

Tensions were running high outside a Detroit courthouse when the families of a murdered college student and the suspect in the case went toe-to-toe.

At one point, a family member even ripped the leg off a tripod belonging to a television station.

For a few seconds, the woman wielding the tripod leg can be seen walking towards the crowd before changing her mind and tossing away the piece of steel. Each side blames the brawl on the other.

"We were walking out not bothering these people, they had no business approaching us whatsoever," said one person involved in the scuffle. "She just started screaming that she's going to bring her people, I don't even know what she's talking about but they're maniacs. He's going to get what he deserves, the book thrown at him."

The suspect, 35-year-old Jacob Wells was arraigned over the weekend with first-degree murder and armed robbery. He faces life in prison if convicted.

Watch the video above for what the situation was like at the scene.
