SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -
Saginaw County could revisit its automatic kill policy on pit bulls and allow residents to adopt the breed from shelters -- a move that would mirror a similar decision made this week in Genesee County.
On Wednesday, the Genesee County Board of Commissioners voted to allow its animal control agency to find adoptive homes for pit pulls. As a result, the move protects the dogs from automatic euthanasia when they are not claimed by their owners.
The decision on whether to euthanize or place the dog in a home will be now be on a case-by-case basis in Genesee County.
Saginaw County Animal Care Center officials say the policy could be discussed during a future advisory board meeting.
