Shelby Rogers and Madison Keys prepare to practice at the Midland Tennis Center
MIDLAND, MI (WNEM) -
Madison Keys is one of many professional tennis players who enjoy the Dow Corning Tennis Classic in Midland.
"Everyone that I talk to constantly says how great it is and how wonderful it is here," Keys said.
Year after year young stars and seasoned veterans mark their calendars for this big women's pro event each February. Alexandra Mueller of Philadelphia, PA has played in this tournament before.
"Everyone at the club and the town is just so welcoming to all the players. It just seems like they really love having the tournament here which makes it nice for the players to come back," Mueller said.
The classic is a big draw for international players like Kim Grajdeck from Germany. She's playing in the tournament for the first time, and she's impressed with the facilities here.
"You have tons of courts and you can practice as long as you want. It looks great," Grajdeck said.
Even though this is an indoor tournament the players I talked with were very surprised about what wasn't outside.
"We flew into Detroit and then drove here and we were like oh my God there's not one inch of snow," Grajdack said.
While some players would like to see a little white stuff...Shelby Rogers, like every player here, has a few other goals for this tournament.
"Get as far as I can you know. Have fun, play well, compete well, and just get a good experience out of it," Rogers said.
