Republican Rep. Kurt Damrow
TUSCOLA COUNTY, MI (WNEM/AP) -
More legal troubles appear to be on the horizon for a Mid-Michigan Republican.
Nearly four months after being removed from the executive committee and having his membership to the Huron County Republican Party revoked, Rep. Kurt Damrow is facing a possible investigation by the Office of the Michigan Attorney General.
Tuscola County Prosecutor Mark Reene made the announcement on Friday and said in a written statement that moving forward, any additional actions in the matter will be addressed by the Attorney General's office.
The Port Austin resident, who represents Huron and Tuscola counties in the Michigan House, was stopped in January 2011 and given a $150 ticket for not having insurance. Damrow was criticized four months ago for late campaign finance reports, "failure to take timely responsibility" for a "no proof of insurance" ticket and other issues. The resolution noted that Damrow presented allegations to the state police related to Huron County matters and investigators determined nothing rose to the level of criminal wrongdoing.
It's unknown if Damrow will seek re-election to the Michigan House in 2012.
