SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -
Saginaw Township police are investigating a robbery that occurred Monday at the United Financial Credit Union on Weiss, near Bay Road.
Authorities said the hold-up happened around 2:50 p.m. when an African-American male walked into the credit union and used a gun to rob the place.
A TV5 photographer passing the location noticed about a half-dozen police cars in the parking lot. Authorities were searching the neighborhoods near the bank and had even taken a person out of a pulled over vehicle at gunpoint. That person was later released.
The Saginaw Police Department and Saginaw Township Police, as well as Saginaw County Sheriff's deputies were investigating.
A K-9 unit was brought in to track the suspect, who remains at large. The man was described to be in his 20s, standing 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing about 180 pounds. Photos show the man wearing light blue jeans, a dark hooded sweatshirt and a white cloth across his face.
Authorities are speculating that the same man who robbed an Independence Bank on Brockway at Center Road last week could be behind this robbery.
Police said the man had a gun at the time of the Independent Bank robbery, and that an undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the bank.
"We definitely want to get this individual off the streets, he may be responsible for several armed robberies that have occurred throughout the past month," said Saginaw Township Chief of Police Don Pussehl.
