Murder at Purple Moon not directly related to shootout

FLINT TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

Flint Township police say the shooting at the Purple Moon Nightclub and the shootout in Flint Township aren't directly related. TV5 has learned a fight between two family members led to the shootout.

It was a chaotic scene - a shootout unfolding in a normally quiet Flint Township neighborhood Monday afternoon.

It's a follow-up to the deadly shooting at the Purple Moon Nightclub early Monday morning, when 20-year-old Rickey Seales Jr. was killed.

Family members say the shootout in the 2000 block of Casaloma Court in Flint Township involved two family members.

"My son's cousin shot him and he shot back at him," says Rickey Seales Sr.

Rickey Seales Sr. says that's how it all unfolded at his home, his son and his son's cousin started arguing and gunfire was exchanged.

Rickey Seales Sr. believes the cousin had something to do with an incident at the Purple Moon Nightclub that left his son dead.

"Rickey's dead because of him," he said.

Police say one of the shooters ran to another home a few houses away, but a SWAT team pulled him out a short time later.

Police are not releasing the names of the shooters involved.

"He's in jail and his cousin is, too," Rickey Seales Sr. said.

Rickey Seales Sr. says he's mourning the loss of his son and now worries that he may lose another son to the justice system. His son is in jail for taking part in the shootout.

"His brother was very hurt and disturbed about it, and it has torn us up," he said.
