SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

About 40 schools in the TV5 viewing area were either closed or delayed Thursday following a wintry mix of freezing rain and snow.

The low-pressure system entered our region early Thursday morning, leaving behind mix of rain, sleet and snow.

As a result, many of the area's secondary roads were slick during the morning commute. Many of the schools closed Thursday were in Tuscola County.

The rain and snow will taper off through the day, according to TV5 Meteorologist Catherine Bodak.

"We could see a few isolated snow pockets, but most will be dealing with the cloudy skies and mild temps," Bodak said. "Today we will reach the upper 30s with a few areas touching 40 degrees."

A weak low pressure system will pass through Friday night into Saturday. This will bring light snow showers with 1-2" possible.
