BAY COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Two Bay City men are dead after a rollover accident. It happened at about 12:20 a.m. Sunday in Portsmouth Township.

Michigan State Police believe the driver lost control while traveling north on Knight Road near Russell Road. The car hit a culvert, rolled over and landed in a ditch filled with water.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, but his passenger remained trapped inside. By the time police arrived the men had died.

The driver was 38-year-old Tommy Syring. The identity of his 33-year-old passenger has not been released.

Police say the impact of the crash was so severe, it left debris scattered throughout the roadway. The cause of the accident remains under investigation, but police believe speed and alcohol may have been a factor.

TV5 has learned that Syring had recently gotten engaged.

Michigan State Police received assistance from the Portsmouth Township Fire Department and Bay Medical E.M.S.
